Good News Congregational Discussion, with Pizza Recently, people have asked what is happening among our members and friends regarding Social Justice Issues in Surprise. Actually, quite a lot. Between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 9th, the congregation will have an opportunity to share what is happening. First, Rick Wambaugh will share with us the good news about the Surprise Elementary School project -- what his volunteers are accomplishing and their attitude toward these accomplishments. Then, Teraysa Hightower will talk about the refugee project, especially the results of the Baskets-for-Refugee-Families event that will have taken place on the 8th. After that, we hope that members, who wish to do so, will share with us what they have been doing to further social justice in AZ. If we have time, we will have some additional questions for discussion. Come, enjoy pizza, learn about our Social Justice activities.

Transportation for Seniors and Others Without Cars - Have you given up your car? Or are you worried about how to get around the area if you have? On Thursday, April 13th at 10:00 a.m., Kathryn Chandler, Executive Director of Northwest Valley Connect and an inspiring speaker, will speak to us about this non-profit organization whose mission is to provide personalized support to connect seniors and people with disabilities with available transportation services. Come to learn how to find a ride and how you can volunteer to help.

It’s TIME! April 16th  Dig up your favorite Easter Bonnet or hand craft one. Enjoy the spirit of the old fashioned Easter Parade (no real parade, just enjoy every ones hats’ during social hour). There will be a prize for the best ladies hat and one for a gentleman. Diane Valdez and Danean Mitchell will be judging your creations. Our children will also be sharing their hat ideas for an opportunity to win a prize.

The Great Decisions 2017 Foreign Policy Discussions will begin on Monday, February 6th and continue for eight weeks. Sign up in the Social Hall for this course and see Bonnie Saunders to get your briefing book. Read the January Newsletter for more details.

Children’s religious education is in desperate need of classroom assistants in all of our classes. Our children’s RE program is a volunteer-driven program and because we insist upon two sets of adult eyes in each classroom, for liability purposes, we are very short on help.  Being a classroom assistant requires no prep time.  What they do assist with is classroom activities, stories, and participating in discussion. Even volunteering one or two Sundays would be a great help.  Contact Lisa Lawrence at if you can help to resolve this crisis.

We continue to need some volunteers to set up for the social hour after Sunday service. Team 1; Prep will put out the adult and kid’s treats. Set up coffee and tea services. Team 2; coffee will make the coffee and clean the pots. Team 3; Load DW, wipe down tables, put up left over treats.   It is my hope and vision to have rotating teams of volunteers within each category. You can volunteer for more than one team. Dick Andrews has graciously donated a monetary donation for the committee to purchase treats for Sunday Jan 23. If you are willing and able to volunteer, please contact Danean Mitchell at 623-546-6050.  Thank you in advance for your assistance.   There will also be a sign-up sheet on the sign up table.  Please like and share our NEW Unitarian Universalist Church of Surprise Facebook page!

Please like and share our NEW Unitarian Universalist Church of Surprise Facebook page!  Teraysa Hightower has built and is administering a Facebook page for the church.  Please take a moment to check it out, say hello, like and share as you wish.  The best publicity is through our own members
